Manchester United join Chelsea in flinching at Serie A star’s price tag

Chelsea’s withdrawal from the race for Andre Onana’s signature is rather curious.

It’s left Manchester United as the only serious competitor for the Inter Milan goalkeeper’s signature, and according to Caughtoffside, they are favourites to sign him, despite having some questions about his price tag.

The £50m fee Inter want has been enough to put Chelsea off, and clearly United are having second thoughts too. Our attempts to include various players in a deal as part exchange failed (doesn’t it always?) and we’re clearly not interested in stumping up such a hefty fee for a goalkeeper who had a brilliant season but is not considered among the top 3 or 4 in his position in the world.

Wherever Onana goes, if he is indeed sold Inter will have had a major injection of cash to play with, which could help us agree a deal to finally get Romelu Lukaku to them on a permanent deal.
