More Havertz to Real Madrid connections emerge

It’s felt for a long time like it would be impossible to sell Kai Havertz. Chelsea bought him for a lot of money, and he just hasn’t lived up to expectations since. Who is going to take a risk on an expensive player who has thus far disappointed?

Well, it could be Real Madrid. The Spanish press, as translated by SportWitness, claim that a meeting took place last week between club president Florentino Perez, sporting director Jose Angel Sanchez and manager Carlo Ancelotti where targets for the summer were discussed – and Havertz’s name came up.

Interestingly, the piece also note that there were links between Havertz and Madrid back in 2020, just before he moved to Chelsea. It’s claimed that the mercurial forward was on his way to Madrid that year before the coronavirus pandemic changed their plans, and Havertz ended up at Chelsea.

He’s had his moments since then and the talent is obviously there, but most fans have run out of patience, and the idea of getting decent money for him is very tempting.

It’s written here that Havertz isn’t happy at Chelsea and would be “delighted” to leave. One can imagine that leaving for Madrid would be particularly tempting.

It would also bail Chelsea out of a big financial hole, allowing them to free up funds to invest in a proper striker or a goalkeeper. We will keep a close eye on this one.
