Manchester City have submitted a £25m bid for Mateo Kovacic, according to good source Sam Lee, who covers City for the Athletic.
He says that Chelsea had already given their league rivals permission to speak to the Croatian last week, and are now at the stage of agreeing a fee with the club. The midfielder wants to join City and now things are moving towards a conclusion.
Clearly the two sides were on the same page about the price to start with otherwise that permission wouldn’t have been granted. We assume Chelsea will hold out for more than this £25m, but it probably won’t get above £30m. That means everything could be wrapped up very soon, and we could see Kovacic on his way before this famous end of June deadline we’ve heard about.
It leaves Chelsea with a decent bid of money to spend on the midfielder they themselves so desperately need.
