Like Ruben Loftus-Cheek before him, Trevoh Chalobah is saying goodbye to Chelsea.
RLC did it in person, waving to the stands around Stamford Bridge when he was subbed off in the last game of the season. Chalobah is doing it less directly and less ostentatiously – but nobody can be confused about the message of his recent comments about life in Italy.
“Italy is a nice country. When you play in a new destination, it’s something for a player to experience for himself. Italy is very beautiful as well.
“Obviously, I am still a Chelsea player, but you never know. I like it here in Italy, the weather is good, the people are nice, food is good, I am enjoying my time here [on holiday in Italy].
“[Italian teams] are really strong teams, the league is growing and the teams are really good. I think they are all very strong.”
Chalobah is there on holiday, but it’s clear for all to see he’s getting a taste of life in the country given there’s serious interest in him from Serie A. He’s not exactly hiding that.
We’re torn. We would love to see him there impressing in Serie A and fulfilling his great potential as a player – but equally we want him to stay and thrive at Chelsea. It will be an interesting summer for him and for Chelsea either way – don’t be surprised to see him eating a gelato on the streets of Milan by September.
