United will eventually sign Mount – but Chelsea have done well to earn £65m

Last night reports emerged that Manchester United had had a third official bid for Mason Mount rejected.

Manchester United’s latest offer is still below the reported £65-70m that the Blues want for their midfielder, whose contract expires at the end of next season. Jacobs Steinberg’s report claims that they will accept £58m plus £7m in bonuses, but United aren’t willing to pay that.

We all know what happens now. A frustrated Man U will walk away from negotiations, move on to other targets for a bit, get charged a lot for them too, then will come back – perhaps in a few days or perhaps in a few weeks – and pay what we want for Mount.

It’s not ideal for Chelsea to have this dragging on like this, but you’d have to be impressed with how they’ve held their ground and look to have secured an impressive fee for the 24 year old.
