Chelsea have been named as an unlikely “option” for forgotten Real Madrid man Alvaro Odriozola.
Mundo Deportivo claim we are one of the options for the winger and full back, who signed for Madrid back in 2018 but has struggled for minutes since, and played a record breakingly low 92 all season this year.
He looked a real talent when he moved in 2018 however, and if we hadn’t just signed Malo Gusto to back up Reece James there would be plenty saying Odriozola would be an interesting choice.
With just one year left on his contract now, the power is shifting in his favour, and there’s a strong sense his club will let him go for a very reasonable fee this summer – they clearly have no use for him.
Top of the list of potential destinations are Real Sociedad, his hometown club and the team where he made his breakthrough, and Athletic Bilbao, who can sign him due to his Basque heritage.
Chelsea’s name has come from nowhere, and has possibly just been thrown in to spice up the headline. It’s a brand new rumour, you just never know. Perhaps Mauricio Pochettino has hand picked him as his ideal affordable squad player to fill in some of the gaps. As it stands though, you’d have to say that a move back to Real Sociedad looks infinitely more likely as it stands.
We will keep our eyes on this one.
