(Video): Salary cap set to be debated at Premier League AGM – why Chelsea owners might be in favour

The Premier League’s AGM starts today, and one of the biggest issues on the agenda is a “salary cap” which would limit the spending of every team based of the TV revenue of the league’s lowest earning club.

It would attempt to create a more balanced league, as well as preventing some of the spiralling inflation in wage costs and transfer fees. Chelsea’s owners might well be in favour, given they’ve done the bulk of their spending already and now just want to start recouping some of that cash by running themselves sensibly.

What this basically guarantees is owners will have to spend less to be competitive with the rest of the Premier League, while sacrificing some of their colossal financial advantage in Europe.
