Why Chelsea would be mad to let previously elite centre back leave on loan

Inter Milan are aiming for a difficult deal for Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The former Napoli defender has suffered a tough 12 months in London since arriving from Serie A, and a swift return is being suggested. The arrival of Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana has pushed Koulibaly further back in the queue for minutes at Chelsea, and the return of Levi Colwill on loan from Brighton further reduces his scope for minutes in the year to come.

The Blues are keen to offload him somewhere, and have offered him to a few potential destinations. Inter have had good dealings with us in recent years – but their attempt to get him on loan, as recorded by Sempre Inter, may be too ambitious.

Our priority is to get him off the books, but we all know that a loan just pushes that problem a year down the line, when he’s a year older and a year closer to the end of his contract.

We certainly won’t be accepting any attempts to take him on loan while there are potential buyers out there.
