We were all praying that Romelu Lukaku’s situation would be sorted out long before this, but it seems we’ve reached the decisive moment.
As revealed by Mauricio Pochettino in his press conference a week ago, the striker is due back for preseason training tomorrow – an awkward reunion that he and the club would both rather avoid. His loan return to Inter was wrapped up nice and early last summer, so nobody had to face this issue. According to Matt Law’s piece in the Daily Telegraph, things could get awkward.
Law reports that Lukaku is not going to show up for training tomorrow – and it’s not clear whether Chelsea have given that the green light. Certainly Pochettino was indicating he expected to see Lukaku, but whether that was just bluster or whether things have changed we’re not sure.
Negotiations with Inter are not that advanced, it’s not a case of just a few days, so this story could seriously grow if things aren’t sorted out soon.
