Pochettino hopes to create “new club culture” by making important changes to academy relations

Nizaar Kinsella has written a really interesting article in the Evening Standard today about Mauricio Pochettino’s new era at Chelsea.

He is clearly trying to integrate mor closely with the academy, in a move that will be very popular with the fans. Kinsella reports that the new manager has “undertaken a tour” of the building and had a meeting with bosses Jim Fraser and the legendary Neil Bath.

Kinsella claims that Pochettino is “keen” to have a “homegrown core” in his team, with Reece James, Levi Colwill, Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher listed as initial beneficiaries of that decision.

None of them will be sold or loaned it seems, despite rumours to the contrary over the course of the summer. Their presence is seen as an important part of creating a “new club culture” built from the academy up.

This is all music to our ears – but of course it’s not the first time we’ve heard it. The proof, as ever, will be in the pudding.
