Ben Chilwell speaks of his “honour” at captaining Chelsea – but includes a joke about his horror moment

Ben Chilwell captained Chelsea tonight for the first time at Stamford Bridge, and after the game he Tweeted about his pride in that moment.

He also included a reference to his bizarre decision to pass instead of shoot when he was clean through on goal, right as Chelsea were desperate for a goal to put the game beyond doubt.

“Ps. Shooting practice for me tomorrow” he added jokingly.

It was certainly a frustrating moment, and in fact it was a frustrating game overall for Chilwell, who wasn’t his usual effective self. There have to be serious questions about whether this winger role is actually playing to his strengths.

But in the end we got the win, we got the clean sheet, and his bad decision didn’t cost us anything. The whole team are still incredibly wasteful and low on confidence, and we shouldn’t let a win over a weak Luton time fool us into thinking anything else.
