OFFICIAL: Highly paid first team player heads on loan to Real Madrid

Kepa Arrizabalaga has just completed a season long loan move to Real Madrid, a statement on the Chelsea club website has announced.

The goalkeeper looked set for another season fighting for the number one spot at Stamford Bridge, until things changed dramatically following a season-ending injury to Thibaut Courtois, Madrid’s number one.

They immediately came knocking at our door for Kepa, and the moment he wasn’t included in the squad for yesterday’s game against Liverpool it became clear that a move was imminent. It’s now done, leaving new arrival Robert Sanchez as our top goalkeeper for the season.

It’s not a perfect solution as there is no purchase option in the loan, so we will have to return to the Kepa conundrum in a year’s time. Hopefully by then Sanchez has established himself as a solid number one for us, and Kepa has done well enough to generate interest in a permanent transfer.
