OFFICIAL: Romeo Lavia signs for Chelsea

Chelsea have completed the signing of Romeo Lavia form Southampton.

The central midfielder was strongly linked with Liverpool while we were busy signing Moises Caicedo, but in the end we’ve trumped the Reds and grabbed both.

The 19 year old has signed a 7 year contract, continuing our strategy of securing all these young talents on very long deals. It’s a gamble long term, but our central midfielder revolution has certainly been fast and effective after a long run of seasons where various combinations of Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante (when fit) were the only things on the menu.

Our sporting directors had the following to say about the Belgian talent:

“We believe he is ready to make an impact at Chelsea throughout the current campaign, and in the coming year.”

Lavia came through the Anderlecht youth academy before joining Man City’s finishing school. He left them last summer to join Southampton, where he really impressed in his first Premier League season. He is still a rough diamond, but you can see why there was so much interest in him.
