Nico Jackson’s horrible xG stat is huge cause for concern

We’ve had time to take a breath, now we can look back at yesterday’s loss to Nottingham Forest.

One key moment was Nico Jackson missing a chance to equalise from close range. After the game, it was revealed that his xG for the season is 3.65. Yet he has just one goal.

To put that in context, that’s a very high number – in fact he’s third in the whole league behind Erling Haaland (who has 6 goals from 4.63 xG) and Bryan Mbuemo (who has 4 goals from 4.1 xG).

So Jackson is being given the chances he needs, he’s just not putting them away. Perhaps we will see those numbers improve with a bit of luck as the season goes on, but from the decent number of games we’ve seen already, it doesn’t look like he’s ever going to be a killer in the box.

That’s ok if he creates chances for others and they’re scoring them – but so far, they’re not.

  1. I have been singing the need for a proven striker since Nkunku got injured but none of you journalists posted anything like this before the summer window was closed. It’s now useless posting such things when the time for solutions is long gone.
You can’t put all your eggs in the basket of Nico Jackson and Armando Brajo and think you can finish in to seven. That was stupid of our bosses.
