Chelsea finally beat Brighton to smart signing – player’s gamble paid off

Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing today reveals that Cole Palmer had strong interest from other teams in the Premier League over a move this summer, before he eventually ended up with a deadline day move to Chelsea.

With all due respect to these clubs, the fact that it was West Ham and Brighton interested shows that it was surprising all around that Palmer’s big move came to Chelsea.

The reason he was frustrated at Man City was a lack of playing time, so it made sense for him to drop down a level to ensure more. Coming to Chelsea, who seem well stocked in his position and were spending furiously, seemed like it could end up being a case of “out of the frying pan into the fire.”

But it has proved a smart move for Palmer and for Chelsea in the end, and for once it looks like we’ve outfoxed Brighton.
