Cole Palmer trains with Raheem Sterling at Cobham.

Cole Palmer names the player who “helped” his decision to come to Chelsea

The friendship between Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling was obvious from the moment the attacking midfielder arrived at the club on deadline day this summer.

The Chelsea TV cameras tracked Palmer around his first day at Cobham where he was taking his medical and doing his press photos, and along the way he came across Sterling and gave him a big hug.

The two shared many years at Manchester City together, with Sterling acting as a sort of big brother figure to the youngster.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Palmer said just that:

“When I came to Chelsea, [Sterling] was happy when I joined. I spoke to him before I came. He told me the good things about it and how he thinks I can help. He probably did help [my decision to join] a little bit.”

Because of their shared history, the two of them already have a lot of chemistry together on the field, which is more than you can say for a lot of our other new signings who are still adjusting.

Sterling was brought in for his experience as leadership, and it’s great to see it in action. Well done Agent Sterling…
