Cole Palmer reveals why he had to apologise to his manager after Arsenal draw

Cole Palmer and Mauricio Pochettino should be getting on like a house on fire right now.

The coach has trusted the youngster and given him an extended run in the team; while Palmer has rewarded his boss’ faith and produced some really special showings. It should all be love and happiness between the two of them, and we’re sure it is – which makes Saturday’s incident all the funnier.

Palmer was instrumental in the 2-0 lead that Chelsea had built up against Arsenal, and when he saw his teammates screw up and allow the Gunners to get their equalising goal late on, he was understandably frustrated. As he explained in quotes on the Chelsea official website, things got out of control:

“When they scored their second goal I was getting a drink. I went to throw the bottle away, as you do, but didn’t look. I just saw it loop dead slow and hit the gaffer. I said sorry to him and apologised properly after the game. Hopefully he won’t drop me for that!”

Pochettino will understand, and will appreciate the apology afterwards too. Both parties will be far more concerned with the dropped points than anything else at this point.
