“Excellent” Mason Burstow still has 0 goals, local paper knows why

Mason Burstow’s loan to Sunderland was given a more interesting angle because of the fact that the young striker played for Chelsea in our preseason tour, so plenty of fans saw him in action (even scoring a goal against Borussia Dortmund).

Things have been going well in the North East, although his match rating from the weekend in the Sunderland Echo reveal there are still some aspects of his game which are frustrating the Black Cats faithful. He got a 5/10 rating in their last game, with the comment reading as follows:

“The young striker is leaving Mowbray with a selection dilemma. His work rate is excellent and his pressing here was relentless, helping his side apply pressure on Leicester in dangerous areas. The wait for a goal goes on, though, and that’s primarily because he’s struggling to work shooting opportunities against experienced defenders in the box. 5”

Mason is a developing player, and this kind of thing is to be expected.

This is exactly what loans are for, and as long as Mowbray keeps picking him, we expect him to keep developing, and hopefully iron out these issues in his game.

Adjusting to life in the Championship was always going to be tough, we’ve just got to have faith.
