“Feel the support” – Former Chelsea fan favourite praises supporters

As I’ve said a few times on here before of late, one of the best things about an international break is the extra content filling interviews you get to read in a generally quiet period for domestic football.

Chelsea have been running a series of interviews with former players this week to fill their content out on the website, and the latest one if with a real fan favourite.

Juan Mata was a bit of a cult hero and was adored by Chelsea supporters around the world, who didn’t even hate on him when he left for Manchester United.

Mata was a quality player for Chelsea, and the fans could see just how good he was but as well as this, they really liked his personality and attitude.

Mata has a very long interview on the Chelsea website today, and there is a section where he speaks about the Chelsea fans and how appreciative he was/is for them.

“I’m so grateful for the love [Chelsea fans] gave me. I understand it was a great time to be a Chelsea fan, winning the Champions League, winning the FA Cup and the Europe League.

“I was also just so lucky to be there at that time. It was a very important part of my life.

“In your career you need talent, you need professionalism, you need consistency, but you also need luck to be in the right place at a certain time. I feel that I was at that time at Chelsea.

“I felt very good on the pitch, I felt very confident and I felt very grateful, because I could feel the support of the fans.

“I felt that ever since I arrived. That pushed me to try to get better and better. Thankfully we could give them the reward that they deserved: trophies, goals., and good football.”
