New structure identifies €35m attacker with point to prove as ideal January reinforcement

Mauricio Pochettino has been given greater power in terms of his influence over transfers, according to a piece from Miguel Delaney in the Independent today.

This may have been the plan all along, or perhaps it was just held back as the board worked out whether the Argentine was the man they wanted at the helm long term.

Either way, now he’s in the hot seat, he has apparently figured out which of our long standing targets should be our priority, and has settled on Ivan Toney. The Brentford striker is a great tactical fit, he’s desperate for a move to a top team to show what he can do, and as he comes to the end of a ban for betting on football, seems like he’s got a burning desire to show the world what he’s got.

That’s a very powerful force of will that Pochettino can mould into something dangerous, and we’d love to see it. He’s rated at €35m by Transfermarkt, although we’d expect to have to pay a lot more.
