Pochettino given huge vote of confidence from Chelsea owners as they add new powers to coach

Miguel Delaney’s piece in the Independent today has some interesting information about Chelsea’s transfer strategy and how it might be evolving over the course of this season.

Last summer it seemed like the owners themselves were driving a lot of the business. Over the course of last season various sporting directors and head scouts were brought in to take over.

Now, according to Delaney, we’re going to our final form, with Mauricio Pochettino driving the search by identifying the type of player he wants, and then allowing the sporting directors to find the specific players, and the owners to sign off on the deal when it’s done.

It all seems like a sensible and healthy way to run things, if you’ve found a manager you trust and believe in, and we can only assume from this news that they have that in Pochettino. Results haven’t all gone his way, but he’s certainly managed to convince people that he’s the right long term choice.
