Pochettino’s defence change could trigger new setup for the season

Axel Disasi picked up a mild injury on international duty and was left on the bench for Saturday’s game against Arsenal.

If it was just the injury to worry about, we’d expect him back next week. But there feels like there’s a small chance that Saturday’s setup marks a turning point

Disasi’s absence meant that Levi Colwill came into the middle of the defence and Marc Cucurella played at left back. Colwill’s true position is a left sided centre back, and Cucurella did well in his natural place on the left.

Disasi has been mostly good for Mauricio Pochettino, but the Argentine will now have to decide whether to restore the previous setup or stick with this one going forward. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, and while Disasi brings a huge amount of aerial ability to the side, Cucurella has a tenacity down the left that Pochettino clearly likes too.
