Top insider “not aware” of Chelsea interest in attacker

Chelsea are a real gold mine for Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues have spent the last 18 months buying and selling players all around the world, and Romano can report on anything at all and it’s believable.

That’s why it’s unusual to hear him play down a rumour, as he did this morning in Caughtoffside’s “Daily Briefing.”

Responding to internet whispers that Chelsea are “interested” in Nicolas Gonzales of Fiorentina, Romano said he was “not aware of any contact” with the player from the Blues.

“It’s a very quiet situation since Fiorentina rejected £40m from Brentford last summer. He’s a very good player in my opinion, but he probably needs one more year in Fiorentina before thinking about a big move to somewhere like Chelsea,” the insider continued.

Chelsea’s current situation sees them much more in need of players in other positions, and we would expect our next major move to be up top rather than another creative player between the lines, where we’ve still yet to see Christopher Nkunku playing anyway.

Gonzalez could well be a player we look at in the future, but until we’ve seen Nkunku, as well as more from players like Noni Madueke and the host of teenage attacking talent bought from Brazil in the summer, the Fiorentina man seems like a low priority target.
