Chelsea “optimistic” about securing latest academy gem who made the bench for EFL Cup game

Chelsea’s contract talks with highly rated youth team player Leo Castledine are progressing, and the club are “optimistic about reaching an agreement,” according to Simon Johnson in the Athletic.

The midfielder looks set to be the next top talent off the Cobham production line, and it’s vital that his future is with us. His current deal expires at the end of the season, but talks are underway about a new one, and it seems it’s just a case of convincing him that his future is best served by staying put.

The fact that we’ve also today apparently signed 18 year old Gabriel Moscardo from Corinthians will make that task a little more difficult.

After several training sessions with the first team, Mauricio Pochettino put the youngster on the bench for the 2-0 EFL Cup win over Blackburn, showing his efforts have not gone unnoticed. If he signs the deal, expect a Championship loan next season as his first team pathway continues.
