“He walks into that Chelsea team” – Pundit says Arsenal backup could still be key for Blues

Gabby Agbonlahor was on TalkSport this morning, and the case of the Chelsea goalkeeping situation came up once again.

The former Aston Villa striker was insisting that Robert Sanchez isn’t good enough, and that the recently dropped Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale would be a big improvement:

“I think if you look at Chelsea, Chelsea’s goalkeeper is not good enough for what Chelsea have got in that squad, they need a better goalkeeper. Ramsdale walks into that Chelsea team and I think he does well for them,” Gabby said.

“If I’m Ramsdale, definitely in January, I’m pushing that through, but will Arteta block it and say no, I want a top number two? That’s the problem.”

We’re torn on this one. We agree that there are better keepers out there than Sanchez, and that we shouldn’t let the fact that he’s better than Kepa fool us into thinking that he’s a top class stopper who is definitely our future.

On the other hand, would Ramsdale really be the man to upgrade us? Arsenal have just dumped him for a reason, and it wasn’t an easy decision for them to make in terms of dressing room harmony. They wouldn’t have done it if they weren’t 100% sure he’s not top class. Why would we think we know any better, given they know him far better than our scouts do?

He might be an upgrade, but is he enough of an upgrade?
