Suddenly, out of nowhere, all the talk is about Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The exciting winger was getting plenty of transfer links to other top teams, but not so much Chelsea. In the last few days, it’s all switched. Today Caughtoffside had Fabrizio Romano giving his authoritative take – the Blues are interested like the rest of Europe, but without anything specific already underway.
It makes us wonder where the sudden interest has come from – there’s part of us which suspects it’s all a smokescreen. Our interest in fellow Napoli player Victor Osimhen is well established, and he’s long looked like the elite forward most likely to be top of our list.
Has Chelsea itself been leaking the “Kvaradona” rumours in order to distract from their real target, the Nigerian forward? It doesn’t sound too far fetched at all, given Romano has made it clear that the Italian club will aim to sell just one of their two of their stars this summer.
Despite Kvaratskhelia’s immense quality, Osimhen is a player we need a lot more, and this would make sense as a way of distracting the media and even other clubs while we work on a deal for him behind the scenes.
