Marc Cucurella has just posted a photo on his Instagram which seems to show him having undergone surgery today.
We heard from Mauricio Pochettino in the press conference yesterday that the full back had an “ankle” issue, and it seems it’s much worse than anyone suspected at the time.
It’s a bit of a shocker in all honesty – when he was taken off against Everton it was assumed to be a tactical change, and the fact that it’s turned out to be in fact a quite serious injury is a real blow.
It seems like it’s gone well, and it will now be a matter of counting down to his return in a couple of months.
It comes at a terrible time – Reece James has just been ruled out for months as well. Cucurella had regularly been covering for him on the right hand side. It means Levi Colwill is now going to be needed at left back for the foreseeable future, reducing our depth at centre half.
