Mauricio Pochettino to have ‘pre-planned review’ with Chelsea’s owners

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly set to have a ‘pre-planned review’ with the Chelsea owners.

As with any Blues boss, the pressure to win matches is always going to be there, whether it is a project and squad rebuild or not.

Things have been stuttering a little this season and Chelsea’s league position is still not where they would all ideally want to be right now, and are probably aiming to be in terms of targets set at the start of the season.

Insider Ben Jacobs has been speaking about Pochettino’s future in his exclusive Chelsea column for SPTC today.

Ben says there are no current plans to part-ways with Pochettino this season even if things got much worse. And that is because it was always the intention to at least give him the season and then review it come next summer.

“Mauricio Pochettino’s job is not currently under threat, and rightly so,” Jacobs writes.

“There is always pressure at a club like Chelsea, and football is a results driven business. But my understanding remains that the Argentine will be judged at the end of the season in a pre-planned review that, much like Pochettino’s interview to get the job, will very much be a two-way process.

“I wouldn’t look at this type of meeting as ‘deciding’ Pochettino’s future, or any form of ‘crisis’ talks (and who is to say Chelsea won’t have UCL by then), so much as planning and setting new goals or adjusting existing ones, much like in an appraisal. Chelsea’s senior leadership want to give Pochettino time, resources and freedom to challenge. And they don’t want to make any rash or cut-throat decisions since they are building long-term.”

And this is exactly the way it should be right now as Pochettino settles with a new and young squad.
