£18m striker could be perfect as Chelsea look for short term upgrade to fire them into Europe

Nizaar Kinsella’s piece in the Evening Standard today has revealed that Newcastle are considering selling their striker Callum Wilson, and that Chelsea are among the teams interested in the former Bournemouth man.

Wilson has an impressive 46 goals in 102 for the Magpies, but is 31 now and is ultimately second choice behind Aleksander Isak. Eddie Howe’s team feel like now might be the right time to cash in so that they comply with this season’s PSR and FFP calculations.

If Newcastle really are in enough trouble that they want to sell, this could be a great move for Chelsea. At £18m he’s a bargain price for a player who could potentially be our backup striker for years to come.

He’s physical, experienced and with an eye for goal. He could well be our next Olivier Giroud at that price.

Chelsea’s desire to bring in a striker this month seemed to be fading due to a lack of options, but instead this provides a new horizon.
