Victor Osimhen and Ivan Toney are the players most regularly linked with Chelsea as “elite” options to come in and become our new striker.
One name that was mentioned a lot but has fallen out of favour is Evan Ferguson. The 19 year old has had a couple of amazing seasons breaking through at Brighton, but seems to have fallen down our pecking order a little.
There are two reasons for this – firstly and most pertinently that Ferguson signed a new contract with Brighton in November. That runs until 2029, and means that the Seagulls now hold all the cards over a potential transfer.
Then there’s his form, which has dropped off severely this season. It’s all part of the natural development curve of a young player, but the hype has certainly died off after 9 appearances without a goal or assist.
Chelsea are not worried about these good or bad spells however. They’re looking for a striker who can be their main man for 10 years or more, and they will be watching Ferguson closely. Nizaar Kinsella’s piece in the Evening Standard today claims that we are “long term admirers” of the striker.
The Blues have spent more than £200m on Brighton players and coaches in the last 18 months, and could soon make it £300m if they go for Ferguson in the next year.
Why would he want to go to Chelsea as they publicly destroy players?
Anyone in their right mind wouldn’t join Chelsea in their current state unless of course, they are solely focused on money.
