Chelsea are focused on one thing this January – finding another option up top.
The reality seems to be that none of the top targets we want are gettable, so attention is turning to potential bargains who can come in and do a job until the summer, or longer term as a useful option off the bench.
Just think what a great job Olivier Giroud did for us – and could still be doing, had we not decided to cash in.
One name that’s being mentioned in this bargain bin category is Vangelis Pavlidis. He plays for AZ Alkmaar where he’s been banging in the goals and leads the Eredivisie scoring chart. 18 goals in 15 games will attract attention from all over, and Fulham, AC Milan and Barcelona are also linked.
We have apparently “sent scouts” to watch him, and know that a deal could be done relatively cheap. This one is not very advanced yet, but it’s certainly worth keeping an eye on.
