Cole Palmer proves how effective he can be in central role despite slow start

After about half an hour of last night’s game, plenty of Chelsea fans were saying the same thing – Cole Palmer’s got to get into this game.

The shift of position from the right wing to more of a number 10 role never looks like it suits him that well, and once again he was being a little crowded out around the box, with Middlesbrough man marking him.

Yet by full time he had two goals and was WhoScored’s Man of the Match with a 9.2 rating out of 10. That just shows how ruthless he can be. The moment their marking eased off, he was finding space in the box to get shots off. And we all know how dangerous he is from range.

We still expect right wing to be his regular slot, but when we need more midfield firepower, this is a great reminder of how effective he can be.
