€60m centre back has no clear place in Chelsea’s plans

The rumours about Chelsea’s interest in Jean Clair Todibo have really taken a step up today.

There have been whispers about interest in the Nice defender for some time, but today the inside sources have really stepped up the chatter and claim that the Blues are closing in on a €60m deal. Caughtoffside are among the sources with the story, claiming that Chelsea are keen to strengthen at centre back, and have identified Todibo as their number one target.

Online, there’s already a bit of confusion about Chelsea’s plan. Of course we’re expecting Thiago Silva and Trevoh Chalobah to be sold, but there’s still a lot of centre backs in our squad already. Why did we sign Axel Disasi in the summer, to go with Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill? How will all four of them fit if Todibo is signed too?

Is this confusion the result of a lack of planning, or is there a plan in motion which we just don’t understand yet? Given the evidence of the last 18 months, we’re not too confident.
