Former Chelsea winger Willian has thanked the crowd at Stamford Bridge for a superb reception as he returned to his old stomping ground with his latest club Fulham yesterday.
In an Instagram caption, the Brazilian thanked the crowd at the stadium where he played hundreds of times for the warm reception they gave him. He was applauded every time he took a thrown in front of his old fans, and the loudest chant of the day was the “Willian, he saw the light” song which fans have clearly missed singing all this time:
“Today wasn’t the result we wanted, but it was a very special day for me, to be back at the Bridge a place of great memories,” Willian wrote as his caption.
“Thanks for the support Fulham fans and I also want to thank Chelsea fans you were always amazing with me.”
He actually ended up on the receiving end of the tackle from Malo Gusto which ended up being the only controversial part of the day – his manager said it should have been red as Gusto crashed down onto the top of the former Blue’s foot, but Mauricio Pochettino got away with it.
You can see him getting some praise from the crowd at a corner here:
Bit dodgy doing it at the time of the game but Willian deserved the respect he got today from everyone at Chelsea.
A hero, forever.
