We miss Graeme Souness on our TVs. He was very grumpy and often very wrong, but at least he gave a fresh perspective on things. When he got into gear laying into something that you also dislike, it was hard to not enjoy his thoughts.
His column for the Daily Mail is still going strong though, and today he turned his ire to Chelsea and their squad building. Like most of us, he can’t get his head around how we’ve built a squad with no goalscorers in it.
This was how he described our squad on Tuesday: “a collection of players, some very good, some not so good, and not a single proper goalscorer at the top level.”
Bang on.
He slams the way the squad has been built by “non-footballing people” and can’t believe that we’re still back where we were before these owners arrived – desperate for a consistent scorer.
“If you lay out a billion, as Chelsea have, you have to sign players for today, not some time in the future,” was his withering summary of the team that lines up for us later today against Fulham.
