Pochettino has Chelsea fans delighted with one call and frustrated with another

It’s tough being a manager, let’s face it. You can never keep everyone happy, and today is a great example.

For fans reading down Chelsea’s teamsheet, there was rejoicing at the second name on the list. Youngster Alfie Gilchrist has followed up his impressive cameos as a sub by getting a first start today.

But by the time fans had reached the bottom of the lineup, there was already frustration about another decision.

Raheem Sterling has been given the nod to play out wide, with Noni Madueke left out despite goals in consecutive games.

It’s a tough call for Mauricio Pochettino, and we understand his logic, but it’s a curious call. He got Madueke to go above and beyond to earn his place in the team – and now seems to have dropped him despite getting what he wanted.

Perhaps this is to keep him fresh for Tuesday night – but surely there are no fatigue concerns with Madueke, who has barely featured this season.
