Nizaar Kinsella’s big piece in the Evening Standard today is all about Evan Ferguson, although there’s plenty of interesting stuff in there on the window in general.
One line that may set some alarm bells ringing among fans who want to see major additions this January is the idea that the club are going to be “careful” as they look to continue heading towards a more balanced Financial Fair Play situation.
We’d already long given up the dream of signing an elite striker in this window. Now it looks more like we might just add a cheap option or a loan. Kinsella mentions both Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher as potential departures, but we think we’re more likely to see just Chalobah go (injury permitting). Selling Gallagher would just mean we need another central midfielder, putting us back to square one in terms of FFP.
This ownership has surprised us before – not least this time last year – but this should be their calmest window yet, by some margin.
