Cesc Fabregas was on Radio 5 Live this week, where he added his voice to the growing chorus of people who are convinced that Chelsea have turned the corner and are starting to look better on a more consistent basis.
We won two games in a row, and then drew with Man City. But in fact it was that draw that really impressed Cesc. He picked out the team’s confidence on the ball, which was in stark contrast to some of the aimless possession we’ve seen in other games this season.
“Without being an amazing game, I liked what #Chelsea did against Manchester City much better. Yes, in the last half an hour they struggled, but they kept the ball when they had to and had an idea. I do see a big, big improvement,” Cesc said.

We’d agree with Fabregas, we have looked better in the last 3 games. But how short are memories to forget how bad we were in the games before that? We’re going to have to get a bit more than 3 games in a row under our belt before we get too sucked in. If we show what we’re made of against Liverpool on Sunday… maybe we’ll start to believe.
I’d be quite surprised (and delighted) if we suddenly started turning in performances like the ones at City and Villa week in and week out, but common sense suggests we’re going to continue to experience some inconsistency for a bit longer. We’re still fielding a squad of mostly 20-23 year olds and it would be astounding, frankly, if we didn’t see more blips (like Liverpool and Wolves) along the way. The one thing that we CAN reasonably hope is for those blips to be a little bit fewer and further between.
