Another rising star has “accepted an offer to join Chelsea” in recruitment role

We heard the rumours last week, but it’s now been confirmed that Brighton head of recruitment Sam Jewell will come to join Chelsea in a “senior position.”

David Ornstein of the Athletic has the full scoop, saying that the 34 year old has “accepted an offer to join Chelsea” and now starts his period of gardening leave, which won’t end up until November.

Jewell will report to co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart.

Of course, as we noted last week, what’s strange is that Jewell was upgraded to his last role on the South Coast because Chelsea had snatched Winstanley from the same position 16 months ago.

The Brighton to West London pipeline continues, and clearly it doesn’t discriminate between players, coaches and behind the scenes suits.

Jewell is well regarded in the game, and apparently played a role in the moves of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to Brighton a few years ago. If he can pull off some similar moves at Chelsea, he will quickly make himself very popular.
