Now that January has come and gone, we’ve had our suspicions confirmed that Chelsea are going to look to wait until the summer to sign a top striker.
That opens up some options, and certainly allows a bigger budget, but also creates new problems.
A year ago we picked up Enzo Fernandez in January because we knew there would be serious competition come the summer. We might not have been able to sign him had we waited. The same looks to be true with Victor Osimhen this summer.
Caughtoffside are reporting that Arsenal are seriously interested now, and they won’t be the only ones. Teams who have been less silly with their spending have the potential to outbid us this summer, and given Osimhen has a release clause set somewhere around £100m, it might come down to who is willing to break their wage structure to get the Nigeria forward in.
