Chelsea’s academy revealed as the most profitable in the Premier League

Chelsea’s academy has been revealed as the most profitable in the Premier League.

This is according to the CIES Football Observatory who have calculated the revenue generated by clubs from academy sales over the last 10 years.

The Blues have relied on their Cobham academy to produce top quality players for the first team as well as providing the club with a good source of income.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have raised £299m from academy sales over the past decade with the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori , Tino Livramento and Ruben Loftus Cheek all being sold.

The biggest fee Chelsea have received for an academy player is the £55m they got for Mount from Manchester United in summer 2023.

Not all academy stars are sold with Cobham graduates Conor Gallagher, Levi Colwill and club captain Reece James all important players under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Liverpool  are the other Premier League clubs to appear on the list whilst Benfica are rated the most valuable academy in the world having generated £442m through academy sales in the past 10 years.

Chelsea could be busy again in the summer with academy sales with the likes of Ian Maatsen, Trevoh Chalobah and Armando Broja all expected to be sold, whilst doubt remains surrounding Gallagher’s future with the midfielder only having a year left on his contract come the end of the season.

In this period Chelsea have sold 28 players that have come through the ranks at Cobham.
