Defender had “different feeling” when he scored semi final wonder goal

Axel Disasi has scored two notable goals this season: one on the opening day against Liverpool, and one in the Carabao Cup semi final against Middlesbrough.

As he pointed out when speaking about his season so far, those efforts were very different, both in context and in the goals themselves. The one against Boro was one of our favourite goals of the season, the defender jumped from his line to nick a ball, ran with it, played it out wide and carried on his run, then finished the return pass first time.

“When I got the ball I had the opportunity to continue my run and score. It was a nice goal and a different feeling from my first goal against Liverpool. It was great and it was a nice night for us,” he said in quotes on the club’s official website.

“I was very happy to win the game and go to the final. For me, to have the opportunity to win a trophy in my first year at Chelsea is great, but I knew that by coming here I would get chances like this. We have this opportunity as a club, we will do everything to win this trophy.”

On Sunday, his role is very much not going to be based around bombing forward and attacking. He’s going to be focused on keeping a dangerous Liverpool team at bay. His goal against the Reds earlier this came from a corner – that feels a lot more likely than another run the length of the pitch.

He’s got a vital role to play at the back to worry about first, though. We need him playing like he did against Man City last weekend.
