Ex-Spurs striker would rather watch Chelsea star play than Lionel Messi

Jermaine Defoe has revealed that he would rather watch Cole Palmer than another other player right now.

Palmer is enjoying an exceptional debut season at Stamford Bridge having only joined the club in the summer from Manchester City in a deal worth £40m.

The England international has scored 12 goals and provided nine assists in 29 appearances across all competitions and has established himself as an integral part of the Chelsea attack in his first full season as a regular in the Premier League.

Speaking on BBC Sport’s The Players Channel Defoe was asked by co host Troy Deeney which player he enjoyed watching  right now.

He said: “In today’s game, who would you pay to watch?”

Defoe replied: “Right now? Cole Palmer.”

Itr’s clear that Deeney was slightly shocked by the response and said: “Cole Palmer? That’s a mad first name to throw out bro! I think he’s sick by the way. You could go Messi, Ronaldo, Haaland and you went Cole Palmer.”

Defoe added: “I’ve seen it, I’ve seen it. You know what I’m thinking about I want to go and watch someone who for the next 10, 15 years can be anything they want to be.

“Going forward now, I want to go and watch someone who’s young, exciting.”

The 21 year old will almost certainly be one of the first names on the team sheet for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final and Chelsea will certainly hope that the England international can inspire them to a first domestic trophy since the FA Cup in 2018 and manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first trophy in England.
