Joe Cole has delivered his verdict on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen who the Blues are reportedly interested in bringing to west London this summer.
The Nigerian has emerged as one of the most sought after strikers in world football over the last couple of years and scored 31 times in 39 appearances across all competitions last season as Napoli won their first Serie A title since 1990.
This season has been interrupted by injury and hasn’t seen the former Lille man hit those same heights but he still has nine goals and three assists from 19 appearances in all competitions, including the equaliser in Napoli’s 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League last night.
Chelsea’s need for a striker is well documented and the Blues have been consistently linked with Osimhen as they search for a regular source of goals.
Cole was asked which current young striker could be the next big thing, he told TNT Sport: “I think one or two of them will emerge out of that group. Dusan Vlahovic is very good technically and a good finisher. Darwin Nunez does unbelievably well with his all round game and he needs to brush up on that side.”
“Osimhen was the one this time last year everyone was looking at and then he’s fallen off a little bit. Rasmus Hojlund I think he’s got a chance.”
“If you’re asking me for one, I’d probably go with Osimhen. He would be the one but I’m going from six months ago not from at the moment. Any of those four could do it.”
