“I think they are highly motivated for this game” – Daniel Farke on Chelsea FA Cup tie

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke believes Chelsea’s defeat in the Carabao Cup final could make the task harder for his side on Wednesday night.

Farke takes his high flying Leeds team to Stamford Bridge knowing he will be coming up against a Chelsea side desperate to show a reaction following more Wembley heartbreak.

That defeat has massively increased the pressure on Mauricio Pochettino whose wait for a first trophy in England goes on, and this has now become a must win match for the Argentine and his long term Chelsea future.

However Farke has played down any suggestion that his side now face an easier task and actually claimed it could make the job harder.

Speaking in his pre match press conference the German said: “I don’t think them losing in the final will help, I expect they will be very, very focused on this game. It is their best chance to play in Europe next season. I think they are highly motivated for this game.”

“We would like to extend our cup run. I don’t think the result will make our life easier. I think it will be more complicated.”

Unlike Chelsea who are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League Leeds are in a great position to return to the big time following relegation last season.

They sit second in the Championship and head into tomorrow night full of confidence having beaten league leaders Leicester City 3-1 on Friday night.
