“If I was Todd Boehly I would be..” – Pundit gives advice to Chelsea owner

Andy Townsend has said Todd Boehly needs to tell Chelsea’s sporting directors to go and sign more match winners.

Boehly was in attendance at Wembley as the Blues lost the Carabao Cup final 1-0 to Liverpool last Sunday with the club and especially Mauricio Pochettino coming under a lot of criticism following that defeat.

Chelsea have struggled since Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over the club in May 2022 with the Blues finishing a dismal 12th last season and are on track to miss out on European football again this campaign with the club currently sitting in 11th place in the Premier League.

Former Chelsea player Townsend believes the Blues lack players who can go and win the game for them and had some advice for the American billionaire.

Speaking on talkSPORT he said: “If I was Todd Boehly I would be saying to those sporting directors, because they are the ones there needs to be more accountability. Everyone points the finger at Poch but there needs to be more accountability on those guys.”

“If I was Todd Boehly I would be saying stop wasting my money here, there and everywhere. Go and find me someone who can win me a game. That is the difference, they need someone through the door, who can win them a game.”

Chelsea face a crucial must win FA Cup fifth round tie tonight against Leeds at Stamford Bridge where defeat could spell the end of Pochettino’s time in charge.
