“If you want to grow…” – Pochettino on how he’s going to develop important player

It was pointed out to Mauricio Pochettino in his press conference today that Nicolas Jackson is just a couple of bookings away from a two game ban in the Premier League. The manager laughed – he was already well aware of this.

He then got serious, explaining that discipline was something that Jackson really needed to learn now if he wants to develop into a great striker.

“We already chat a lot. We are all aware about that. He is aware and we are aware. He needs to learn and to improve. Now after one month, he is motivated to play. He hasn’t played too much… If you want to grow, you need to be aware of… silly yellow cards.”

Jackson’s role is going to be even more important now that Armando Broja has left on loan. Jackson is going to be leading the line from now until the end of the season, and getting a ban for too many yellow card would be absolutely criminal.

As Pochettino said however, there’s only so much he can do from the sidelines. Hopefully better results mean a more relaxed squad overall.
