Pochettino once again asks Chelsea fans to give him ‘time’ as they build ‘from zero’

Time, patience, process, are three words that we keep hearing about the Chelsea project in the last 18 months plus.

Many Chelsea fans are getting fed up of affording time and patience and believe that we should be seeing much more of a developed squad than we are seeing right now. But it’s way off.

But Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has once again asked for time from the Chelsea faithful and says that they are building something from zero here.

Tonight his side go to Aston Villa and face a very tough task of getting past them to progress in the FA Cup. They are in danger of losing three on the bounce and conceding even more goals after the 8 they have conceded in the last 2 matches.

Many believe Pochettino should have been sacked after losing 4-2 at home to fellow midtable side Wolves on Sunday, but he’s still here and still asking for our patience.

“We always need time and we are building from zero,” Pochettino told reporters at his press conference this week. “Sometimes it looks like you move forward, but sometimes you need to go back because some problems appear.

“You should think it is going to be good, but after it, it is maybe better to go for [something else]. It always takes time. Look at the project of Manchester City or Liverpool.

“It’s always about time. It’s about time and about a very clear leadership like Pep or Jurgen. It’s so clear from there you build all these projects.

“I always told you the reality is from the beginning, we were not playing with too many players because they were injured,” he added. “Now they have returned and look what happened after 70, 75 minutes in the last game. We have [Ben Chilwell] and Malo Gusto; they were injured, Chilly for a long period, Malo for a shorter period than Chilly but also injured – 70 minutes, and they have cramp.

“At the end, important players need time. We were not lucky. Maybe other teams with different projects perform better than us. But it’s difficult to explain and justify all the situations that happen in our club.

“If you are clever, analyse the situation, and you will see sometimes, in some games, we show this lack of energy that you need to win. If you sometimes miss the energy in the Premier League, it is a tough situation for you.”
