Pochettino sent personal text from Chelsea owners – it’s not the positive sign he thinks it is

Mauricio Pochettino revealed in his press conference today that he was sent a text by part of Chelsea’s ownership after Sunday’s heavy defeat to Wolves telling him that he and everyone else at the club were “in this together.”

Asked whether he had been told that his job was under threat, the Chelsea boss said it was in fact the opposite – he had been given support from those who were at the top of the club in the wake of a second damaging defeat in a week.

“I didn’t hear nothing [from the owners]. in another way. I received a very good text from them. We are all together in this. That is the most important. They are in contact with him and the sporting directors every day.”

It should be a positive thing – but we all know that a text from the owners of a club is as bad as the dreaded “vote of confidence.”

How many coaches have some close enough to the brink to need a personal message from the ownership and then recovered to the point of being a major success? Not many, if any.
