Djordje Petrovic has revealed that he and his Chelsea team mates are in pain following the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.
A goal two minutes from the end of extra time by Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk saw the Blues slump to a record sixth consecutive domestic cup final defeat.
Chelsea weren’t without their chances and wasted several very good opportunities as well as having a goal ruled out for offside.
Petrovic put in an impressive performance making several good saves in his first final for Chelsea but in the end it didn’t count for anything.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website the 24 year old said: “The feeling is very painful, it was a first final for a lot of us, also here at Wembley. The atmosphere was amazing and we really felt the Chelsea supporters with us.”
“We must use this feeling because this is a new generation and we want to keep the success of this club.”
Petrovic added that the defeat hurts and the players are not happy with the Serbian saying: “We are not happy and it hurts.”
“We left everything on the pitch. The team put in a lot of effort and we had a lot of opportunities, we hit the post, and we had chances to maybe kill the game but we couldn’t do it.”
‘”Then we concede the very goal late and that one detail changes everything as we don’t have time to stop them lifting the trophy. Now we have to get our heads up and think about Wednesday against Leeds as that is an important game for us in the FA Cup.”
Petrovic and his team mates have very little time to get over the defeat at Wembley as the players return to training today to recover and prepare for the FA Cup fifth round tie against Leeds at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
